Artist's statement - suomeksi -
For over thirty years I have been working with a therapeutic material – clay.
As I work with the pliable, soft, and a little rough clay I steep myself in my own thoughts and the inner vibes. I’m able to fulfill my ideas and visions just the way I want to – I am able to fly. Clay gives me the opportunity to express myself in 3D as it transforms itself the way I want it to.
Piecing clay together with different materials gives the end result variation and soul. For about 10 years I have mixed ceramic with rusty metal and different recycled materials. After discovering the beauty of metal it has given more colour to my work in many ways. My husband helps me piece together my work as I have visioned.
My work is hand-build unique sculptures and reliefs. I find the themes in dreams, poems, ancient cultures, astrology and everyday life with its ups and downs.
Sometimes I think about the reasons why I’m making art. I think the reasons for each and every one are personal and internal – partly unconcious even. By making art I’m trying to send a message that the verbal communication cannot reach.
I wish my work would show the viewer the joy of hard work and experiencing life. These things carry us through even the darkes times of our lives.
